Workshop abstract:

This workshop focuses on the fundamental challenges and emerging opportunities in decentralized networked systems, a cornerstone of the evolving Web3 paradigm. Unlike traditional centralized architectures, decentralized solutions—such as blockchain-based systems—enable novel functionalities including trustless coordination, enhanced transparency, and improved resilience across large-scale and heterogeneous environments. These properties make decentralization particularly relevant for a wide range of application domains, including online social networks, collaborative platforms, the Internet of Things (IoT), healthcare, finance, smart mobility, and supply chain management.

Despite these advantages, decentralized systems introduce significant technical challenges spanning multiple layers of system design. Key issues include scalable and efficient communication, latency-aware and fault-tolerant consensus mechanisms, privacy preservation, computation verifiability, and coordination among dynamic and distributed nodes. Furthermore, interoperability across platforms—central to the emerging vision of an Internet of Blockchains—remains an open problem requiring robust solutions. Advances in peer discovery, routing, data dissemination, cryptographic protocols for selective disclosure, decentralized identity management, and privacy-preserving networking are critical to addressing these challenges.

The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners to explore novel methodologies, architectures, and protocols that advance the state of the art in decentralized systems. We aim to foster discussion on both theoretical foundations and real-world applications, highlighting use cases and case studies where decentralization can effectively address contemporary computing and societal needs.

All workshop papers are limited to 6 pages. One additional extra page can be purchased, under payment of an extra fee. Papers following formatting requirements will be peer reviewed by at least three reviewers selected from the Technical Program Committee. Accepted workshop papers will be submitted for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library, as part of the NCA 2026 proceedings, subject to IEEE’s publication requirements.
